Trainer To The Stars

Andrew Urban has been training celebrities and athletes at is modest home just outside Bracebridge for the past 20 years. Some of his clients include Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and former NHLers Brad May, Steve Yzerman, and Paul Coffey. Urban is originally from Poland and trains people mainly by using the body's own weight and by running barefoot.

What A Hoot

Luna, a Saw Whet Owl, is the star of many Telus television ads. She became a Telus animal after an online vote. All of the footage used in the ads came from one shoot done in 2011. Luna, who was injured and couldn't be released back into the wild now calls the Muskoka Wildlife Centre home.

Tour For A Cure

Sue Carley will be riding in the Tour for a Cure cycling event being held in Waterloo. The Tour features over 600 riders and raised over $1.5 million last year to send kids with cancer to specialized summer camps in Ontario, including Camp Oochigeas in Muskoka.

Bracebridge Executions

Local historian Ken Veitch stands on the site, at the top of Chancery Lane, where he estimates the gallows would have been constructed for the two executions performed in Bracebridge. The first was in 1898 when William Hammond was executed for the poisoning murder of his wife. The last was in 1922 when George Cyr was hanged for the double murder of George Wethers and Lena Solave during a botched robbery attempt. Cyr's body would remain unclaimed after his execution and was buried on the site near the gallows.
