Prehistoric Knife


Bradley Drouin, a archaeologist from Ottawa, creates handcrafted stone knives using the technique of flint knapping, methodically breaking off flakes of stone to create a sharp edge. The technique is the same as that used by prehistoric toolmakers.

Up North Nuit

Huntsville hosted it's second Nuit Blanche North event by closing off the downtown to cars and installing a variety of different art displays.

A pin of New Zealand is displayed on the back of Pady-Anne Templeton's hat at the Muskoka Escapades Town Crier Competition held in Gravenhurst. Templeton travelled from Gore, New Zealand to represent her area in the contest.

Gravenhurst Triathlon

Gravenhurst held the first of many triathlons in the Muskoka area on a day when the temperature soared to almost 40 degrees celsius. Despite the temperatures the race was won in a blisteringly fast time of 2 hours 2 mins by Rich Pady from Orangeville. While he dominated others didn't fare so well with some triathletes needed medical attention at the end of the gruelling race.

Lions, Cougars, and Nanda Guha

After a de-clawed cougar was shot and killed near his property last week local residents began pointing fingers at Nanda Guha who owns Guha's Lions and Tigers, a small roadside zoo. Guha and his wife are both in their 70's and look after 6 lions, 2 cougars, and 1 jaguar. Guha, who is originally from Darjeeling India, is continuing his family's tradition of looking after injured big cats, a tradtion he can trace back 14 generations back to the 1450's.

Some photos from the press conference for the grand opening of the Norman Bethune Memorial House Visitors Centre in Gravenhurst. Norman Bethune, a doctor from Gravenhurst, is a controversial figure for participating in Mao's communist revolution in China. Bethune's birthplace draws tens of thousands of tourists, mainly Chinese, to the town every year.

The press conference featured various dignitaries from China, the mayor of Gravenhurst, Paisley Donaldson, and MP Tony Clement, who for some reason was very happy to see me.
