Former Lieutenant-Governor James Bartleman was the keynote speaker at the TLDSB's annual Aboriginal, First Nations and Inuit Symposium held at the Rene M. Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge. Where he spoke on issues affecting First Nations communities in particular those affecting isolated Northern Ontarion communities. He was also invested as an Officer in the Order of Canada the next day.

The Trillium Lakelands District Schoolboard held it's second annual Freedom Fest at BMLSS in Bracebridge, the event is held in co-operation with Free The Children. This year Free The Children founder Craig Kielburger was the keynote speaker, speaking to the over 650 students from 37 different schools in attendance.

Oreo

Oreo a border collie mix was rescued by Muskoka Animal Rescue after they were alerted to her condition by a concerned neighbour. Oreo suffers from advanced stage glaucoma and is completely blind, on top of that her right eye is badly infected and swollen. Oreo will undergo surgery to remove the infected eye and Muskoka Animal Rescue is accepting donations to help cover the cost of the expensive surgery.
